What is gematria?

gematria is a system that assigns numerical values to words, names, and phrases and is used in Jewish mysticism and numerology. There are various different types of gematria including Greek, Latin, Hebrew, Jewish, Arabic and even English forms. The concept of gematria has its roots in Ancient Near East cultures such as Babylonian and Assyrian cultures.

The idea behind gematria is that numbers have a special significance beyond just the value they represent. For example, certain words have numerological qualities that can be reduced down to single digits which then lead to further insight into the word's symbolic meanings. This special significance can be used to explain everything from Biblical secrets to ancient prophecies to the relationships between people or things.

In Jewish tradition, gematria is often used as a tool for interpreting verses in the Torah. Gematria is also used in Kabbalistic study – understanding how all aspects of life are interconnected through divinely inspired spiritual knowledge. It is believed that understanding these connections offers us an explanation of our innermost selves and the world around us. Gematria is also interpreted as an esoteric code language describing secret teachings meant for only those initiated into mysticism and occult practices.

In modern times, gematria has become popular as a way to manifest good luck or God's favour upon oneself by assigning specific values to names or phrases in order to attract positive energies or outcomes from certain activities or situations. This type of gematria is used primarily for fortune telling and divination purposes although many people use it to analyze their own personalities or relationships with others too.
